Sustainable Board Cost in India: What You Really Pay
The honest answer is this: a sustainable board is often a bit more expensive per sheet. MDF is cheap and widely stocked. But the sheet price is only part of the story, so it helps to look at the whole project cost.
What does BIOMEBOARD™ cost?
BIOMEBOARD™ is priced per project. The price depends on thickness, surface type (Type R or Type F) and how many sheets you need. We do not list a single price because it would mislead. Send us your sizes and quantity and we will quote.
The five parts of real cost
- The board itself. This is the sticker price. MDF is usually lower.
- Cutting and machining. Time and tool wear count. Trial cuts help, because settings can differ from MDF.
- Finishing. Paint, laminate or veneer add cost. A smooth surface needs fewer steps.
- Waste. Cutting well and reusing offcuts lowers the cost per finished panel.
- Project value. Some projects want formaldehyde-free materials, carbon reporting or green building credits. Those needs have value even if they do not show on the invoice.
When does a sustainable board make sense?
- Green building projects. Materials can help earn credits. Note that many credits ask for an EPD, which we do not yet have.
- Schools, hospitals and hotels. These often want no added formaldehyde in the binder.
- Companies that report ESG data. A lower carbon material gives them something real to report, though our carbon number is an internal estimate for now.
When does MDF still win?
If the lowest upfront price is the only goal and nobody is measuring indoor air or carbon, MDF will be cheaper. We say that plainly.

- Ask what test reports come with the board.
